I love all the birds and blooms at this time of year. Here are a few of my favorites:
This is a very fragrant old fashioned rose. A dear elderly neighbor gave us a shoot from his plant before he had to move to town to assisted living a few years ago. He and his wife had brought a start from their farm back in the mid-70's when they moved to the Emporia area to retire. The rose had been on their farm when they bought it in the 40's. No telling how old the original was, but I like to think it probably came to Kansas in a covered wagon!
And here's my touch of Colorado - a columbine.
This one's an oriental poppy. I remember my mom having oriental poppies in her yard.
Here's my very first lilac. I always wanted one but never had gotten around to getting one until we re-did our landscape beds and were choosing plants. This one is "Miss Kim" - a dwarf lilac that's not supposed to get very large (we'll see - I've heard that before on shrubs!). This is the first year she's bloomed as last year she was a victim of the Easter Day Massacre (freeze). :-)
On to other springtime activities -- the outage is over, so we were able to take time to grill last Sunday! Yummy!
I feed the wild canaries (American goldfinch) that are around here. This year, we've had 15-20 at one time at our feeder, but I was unable to catch a picture of them all clustered on the feeder. I'm thinking this may be 3-4 broods that have hatched out and just left the nest as most of them are very small yet.
Happy Spring-almost-summer to all of you!
